Introduction to the Young Innovator Awards

We are excited to introduce the inaugural Young Innovator Awards in Innovative Dormitory Design, designed to acknowledge and applaud the imaginative individuals shaping the future landscape of dormitory living spaces. Our objective is to stimulate the creativity of young minds and encourage them to envision a redefined dormitory experience. We firmly believe that the innovative concepts emerging from the younger generation have the potential to revolutionize dormitory living, making it not only more comfortable but also technologically advanced and environmentally conscious.

The Young Innovator Award presents an opportunity for talented individuals from Singapore’s tertiary institutions to contribute to the evolution of dormitory living. We challenge them to explore innovative dormitory design, integrate cutting-edge technology and prioritize sustainability in their proposals, inviting them to create a sustainable impact.

Application

Applicants can register on our platform by completing the participation form. The proposal to be submitted to the organiser no later than 30 November 2024, 2359hrs.

Submission Guidelines:

Entries should submit the project proposal that includes:

  • An executive summary of no more than 1,00 words
  • Technical feasibility of solution and unique facets
  • Effectiveness in addressing the challenge
  • Potential benefits
  • Operational feasibility
  • Business feasibility of solution
  • Capacity and expertise to execute

Project proposals should include:

  • Comprehensive report design portfolio, highlighting key features, challenges addressed and overall impac
  • A presentation deck
  • Any supporting document such as design mock up/modelling, visual aids, etc.
Judging Criteria
  • Creativity (20%)
  • Functionality (30%)
  • Sustainability (20%)
  • Potential positive impact on the dormitory living experience (20%)
  • Clarity & Comprehensiveness of proposal and test plans (10%)


Results will be announced via email by 28 February 2025.

Award Ceremony

The winners will be announced and honoured at The Dormitory Awards Ceremony and Industry Gala Dinner on 11 April 2025, where they will have the opportunity to showcase their innovative designs to industry professionals, peers and the wider community.

Gold winner

$5,000 cash reward, trophy, a certificate of recognition and exposure through various industry publications and media channels

Silver winner

$3,000 cash reward, trophy, a certificate of recognition and exposure through various industry publications and media channels

Bronze winner

$2,000 cash reward, trophy, a certificate of recognition and exposure through various industry publications and media channels

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF DASL YOUNG INNOVATOR CHALLENGE
The following paragraphs highlight the terms and conditions that should be adhered to

By participating in the challenge, participants agree to abide by these Terms and Conditions. The Organizer reserves the right to disqualify any participant who violates these terms or engages in misconduct during the challenge.

  • Participants must register for the challenge through the designated online platform provided by the Organizer.
  • Registration requires accurate and complete information. Misrepresentation of any information may result in disqualification. 
  • Participants must submit their innovative dormitory design according to the specifications outlined by the Organizer. 
  • Submission must be original work. Plagiarism or infringement of intellectual property rights will result in disqualification. 
  • Each team may only submit one entry. 
  • Winners will be notified through the contact information provided during registration. 
  • If a winner cannot be contacted within a reasonable timeframe or fails to respond within the specified period, the Organizer reserves the right to disqualify the winner and select an alternative winner.
  • By participating in the challenge, participants consent to the use of their names and submissions for promotional purposes without additional compensation. 
  • The Organizer reserves the right to modify, suspend, or cancel the challenge at any time for any reason. 
  • In the event of cancellation, the Organizer is not obligated to award any prizes.
